Yonathan Suarez is one of our December graduates, though he’s waiting to march in May. He chose Union to answer God鈥檚 call to the ministry. 鈥淚’ve grown a lot here at Union, which is not to say that I wouldn’t have elsewhere, but this has been a safe space with lots of people who have helped and watched me grow,鈥 he said. That growth has led Yonathan to deeper involvement on campus, and around the world. The senior theology major spent a year volunteering in Cambodia, is a student chaplain in Campus Ministries, and a member of the Gymnaires acro team. 鈥淚’ve had lots of opportunities to try different things and grow in my leadership,鈥 Yonathan said.
Yonathan is looking forward to entering the ministry soon, but he鈥檚 not in a hurry to leave Lincoln. 鈥淚 would like to stay in the area as I still have a lot of meaningful relationships here,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 feel like God is really working in this community, and I’m super blessed to be involved now and would love to continue for a little longer.鈥
The knowledge Yonathan has gained throughout his years at Union is already starting to make a difference in his life. He said, 鈥淚’ve learned so incredibly much, through my classes, gymnastics, relationships, being involved in Campus Ministries, working different on-campus jobs, and my internship.鈥
As good as his experience has been, he sees better things coming down the line for students. 鈥淚’m very excited about the future of Union and what that means for incoming students,鈥 he said 鈥淎 lot of change has happened over the past five years at Union, but for the better I think.鈥
