BIOL 111—4 credit hours (offered in the fall semester at ��������)

Recommended Prerequisite: One year of high school chemistry

Description: An introduction to the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology including the chemistry of life, cytology, histology, cellular respiration, skeletal, muscular, integumentary, and nervous systems of the body. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week. Does not apply toward a biology major or minor.

BIOL 112—4 credit hours (offered in the spring semester at ��������)

Prerequisite: BIOL 111 with a minimum grade of C

Description: Anatomy and physiology of the endocrine, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, excretory and reproductive systems of the human body. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week. Does not apply toward a biology major or minor.

BIOL 205—4 credit hours (offered in the fall and summer at ��������)

Recommended preparation: BIOL 111 and CHEM 104

Description: A survey of major groups of microbes with relationships to health and disease. Basic principles of microbial nutrition, metabolism, genetics, ecology, microbial control and microbe-human interactions are also considered. The laboratory introduces a variety of procedures, including asepsis, culture, isolation and identification of microorganisms, especially bacteria. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week. Does not apply toward a biology major.

CHEM 104—4 credit hours (offered in the fall and spring semesters at ��������)

Prerequisite: ACT math score of 18 or SAT Math score of 430 (old SAT 2400 scale) or SAT Math score of 470 (new SAT 1600 scale) or higher or MATH 100 (prerequisite with a C or higher or as a co-requisite)

Description: Comprehensive study of the basic principles of chemistry applicable to the health science professions. Topics covered include measurements, the scientific method, atomic structure, the use of radiation in cancer treatment, stoichiometry, pH, acids, bases and buffers in the body, organic functional groups and reactions, glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation and the biochemical functions of carbohydrates, protein structure and function, nucleic acids, fats and proteins in the body. One laboratory per week. Does not apply toward a division major or minor.

ENGL 212—3 credit hours (offered in the fall and spring semesters at ��������)

Prerequisite: ENGL 110 with minimum grade of C; a minimum ACT Reading score of 17 or an SAT Reading score of 430 (old SAT 2400 scale) or SAT Reading score of 24 (new SAT 1600 scale) or a minimum TOEFL Reading score of 55 or a minimum iBT or PBT Reading score of 22 or ENGL 103 with a minimum grade of C; and Sophomore standing.

Description: The application of rhetorical principles to further expository and persuasive writing and sharpening of skills in basic research writing. Readings, class discussions, and writing assignments foster critical thinking skills (including the recognition of logical fallacies) and acquaint students with academic language. Includes an introduction to information literacy as well as to various styles of documentation. 

PSYC 215—3 credit hours (offered in the fall and spring semesters at ��������)

Description: Studies the physical, emotional, cognitive and psycho-social development through each of the life stages, prenatal through old age.

MATH 221—3 credit hours (offered in the fall, spring and summer semesters at ��������)

Prerequisites: Two years of high school algebra and an ACT math score of 20 or SAT Math score of 480 (old SAT 2400 scale) or SAT Math score of 510 (new SAT 1600 scale) or UC ALEKS test score of 46 or MATH 100

Description: Explores basic frequency distributions, probability, sampling, estimations, testing hypotheses, correlation, regression, chi-square and analysis of variance. A TI-84 (highly recommended) or other graphing calculator with comparable features is required for this course. Does not apply toward a mathematics major or minor.
